OpenCNTRL industrial controllers combine industrial PCs with runtime control and HMI software. The OpenCNTRL software options consist of two components: the development software and the runtime software. A user creates and tests an OpenCNTRL application on a desktop or industrial PC with development software, then the user downloads the completed application to a runtime controller. The control and HMI runtime software is preloaded on the OpenCNTRL industrial controller and will be ready to run the down-loaded application.

Xycom Automation offers ControlStudio PE (professional edition for WindowsCE controllers) and ControlStudio EE (enterprise edition for Windows NT controllers). ControlStudio PE Windows NT-based development software is used to create control applications for OpenCNTRL PE runtime systems, and ControlStudio EE Windows NT-based development software is used to create control applications for OpenCNTRL EE runtime systems.
